Ashleigh travelled to Dubrovnik for this years SOSORT conference along with peers from Australia. It was a great time catching up with many of the scoliosis specialists over the world Ashleigh has met through her scoliosis trianing.
Key findings from the conference (to name a few):
Group exercise superior to 1:1 in improving compliance with exercises and brace wear
PSSE compared to general exercise had better results in Cobb improvement
Brace wear in curves >40 degrees at late stage growth is able to delay/prevent need for surgery in most cases (up to 90%)
Improved results with brace wear above 18.3 hour per day
EOS 3D modelling improved brace design and outcomes
Using Sander's score and Tanner Whitehouse is more accurate than Risser alone in assessment of skeletal maturation
Ashleigh also attended the practical day which for the first time at SOSORT consisted of 3 hours of immersion into each school of Physiotherapeutic Scoliosis Specific Exercise by their original teacher/ head teacher:
Scientific Execise Approach (SEAS)
Rigo Concept (BSPTS)
International School of Schroth Therapy (ISST)
